About the Game

Uncivilised is a free, open-source 4X strategy game set in the Ancient Era. Build cities, research technologies, raise armies, and forge an empire — but what makes Uncivilised different is how you deal with the civilisations around you.

The AI Negotiates Back

Every faction leader in Uncivilised is powered by AI that thinks, reasons, and responds to your words — not scripted dialogue trees, not pre-written responses. Tell the Warlord you'll defend his borders and he might believe you. Threaten the Oracle and she might call your bluff. Promise tribute to the Commander and break your word — he'll remember.

Six AI leaders, each with distinct personalities, motivations, and diplomatic styles. They form alliances, demand tribute, propose trades, declare wars, and make peace — all through natural conversation. Your words have consequences.

Diplomacy Changes Everything

In most strategy games, diplomacy is a menu you click through. In Uncivilised, it's the skill that determines whether your strategy works.

A brilliant military plan fails if every faction allies against you. A weak economy thrives if you negotiate the right trade deals. A science victory becomes possible when you convince two rivals to fight each other instead of you.

You can win by conquest, technology, culture, or outlasting everyone. But the path to any victory runs through negotiation.

Open Source, Community-Driven

The game engine is free and open source. Fork it, mod it, extend it. Create new civilisations, maps, units, wonders, and scenarios. The Uncivilised modding community is welcome to rebuild every part of the game.

The AI diplomacy system is hosted at uncivilized.org and improves as more players interact with it. Every negotiation, every alliance, every betrayal helps the AI learn to be a better diplomat.
